Even in the 2025 edition of the Chianti Classico Marathon, there will be a special moment dedicated to Sara Bartoli, an athlete from Mercatale in Val di Pesa who left an indelible mark on our sporting community. The 3rd Memorial Sara Bartoli will be an opportunity to honor her memory with a symbolic and heartfelt award: a special plaque will be presented to the youngest woman to cross the finish line in the 53 km ultratrail race.

Sara was much more than an athlete. Graduating in Food Science and Nutrition, she made sport and health her life’s mission. A champion in OCR (Obstacle Course Racing), often tackling tough, muddy races, she achieved significant milestones, even representing Italy on the national team. In 2018, she was the star of the Chianti Classico Marathon’s promotional video, becoming its official ambassador. In 2019, many remember her from her appearance on the popular Italian TV show I Soliti Ignoti, where she shared her bright smile and infectious energy.

On social media, just as in life, Sara was a vibrant presence: determined, sunny, and generous. A young woman capable of inspiring, motivating, and spreading enthusiasm. Her sudden passing on July 27, 2022, during a training session along the Grevigiana road, left a deep void for those who knew her. Yet, her memory continues to walk alongside us, kilometer after kilometer.

With this Memorial, the Chianti Classico Marathon aims to preserve her legacy, celebrating every year the courage, determination, and passion that made her unique. An award, yes. But above all, a symbolic embrace of a young woman who continues to inspire.
